The Hidden American Revolution -Estate Taxation by George A. Polisner

America, once established as a democracy for the people was taken over fairly recently, however it was sadly page 17 news.  I would think the overthrow of a world-power would have been headline material ?  What happened ? Estate taxes will be abolished over the next several years. This legislation was passed by Congress at the behest of the self-proclaimed Bush presidency and administration.

However, why should we be concerned about such a seemingly small matter ?  Isn't a reduction or abolition of taxes a great thing ?

Well, consider this. Upon the death of a parent, the average child or children in the US may be fortunate enough to inherit some cash, insurance money and property. This inheritance represnts the accumulation of assets by the parent(s) over their lifetime.  And, yes this has already been taxed once, as income tax or capital gains.  But in the case of a few, very powerful and wealthy citizens this estate will include millions, perhaps billions of dollars.

Thus, a child born to wealthy parents is likely to have never been required to work or understand what an average life is like. The inherent danger is the wealthy have a disproportionate influence of political power in this country.  You don't believe that ?  Well, test it out.  Who is more likely to enjoy a dinner with a Congressperson, Governor or representative.  The average family struggling to exist above the poverty level ?  Or the captain of industry that made $200 million last year. And this abolishment of Estate taxes will allow generation after generation to have undue power and access which undermines the very principles of democracy.

Welcome to the "Compassionate Conservative" revolution!
